Late yesterday, we found out that Tim did get into the clinical trial. He started on chemo this morning. Talk about down-to-the-wire!
The clinical trial is what's called a three-armed double-blind clinical study. One arm is a more standard chemo that he would have gotten anyway + a placebo. The other two arms are the same standard drug + the new/experimental drug. The difference between those two experimental arms is the frequency the new drug is given. But, neither Tim nor anyone else at Kaiser will know which of the 3 arms of the study he's in. So... a 2 out of 3 chance that he gets the new drug. Otherwise, it's the same thing as what he would have gotten without the new drug.
Now we wait to see how the chemo goes for Tim. Despite possible side-effects, we're hoping it will start to reduce his pain and discomfort. Paul is due for another round of lab tests early next week to see when he should start on chemo.
We'll keep you updated as far as how we're doing. But, we'll probably post less frequently as we navigate this next phase.
